DIODE DYNAMICS SS6 LED Fog Light Kit for 2022-2025 Toyota Tundra - Amber SAE Fog
Not a SEMA Queen: Rugged USA Imports' Toyota Tundra
Full-size American trucks have been landing in Australia in real numbers for a few years now, but the Tundra is still the newcomer in that story — a Toyota wearing full-size-pickup proportions, built on the other side of the Pacific, converted to right-hand drive, and dropped into a market that already knows what it wants from a RAM or a Silverado. Rugged USA Imports' demo truck isn't trying to win that argument by being the loudest thing at a show stand. It's trying to win it by being the truck you'd actually want following you into the scrub with a dirt bike strapped in the back.
That's the brief this build answers. Nothing on it is decoration for decoration's sake — every part bolted on has a job, and most of those jobs are the same job: get people, gear, fuel, water, and a motorcycle somewhere remote, then get them back.
Freeing Up the Back End
Start at the tailgate. A RIGD Supply UltraSwing Mega-Fit Spare Tire Hitch Mount swings the spare off the hitch receiver instead of leaving it to eat into tray space or hang under the chassis catching dust and mud. Rugged offers it in both 2-inch and 2.5-inch shank fitments, which matters more than it sounds on a truck running a taller-profile mud-terrain tyre — the heavier and bigger the spare, the more that shank size and the swing arm's rating actually matter under load, not just at rest in the driveway.
Relocating the spare off the chassis frees up the factory spare-wheel well underneath the tray for something more useful on a touring rig: a Trail'd 52-litre Boondocker Water Tank, built specifically to drop into that space as a direct factory replacement rather than eating into payload elsewhere. Fifty-two litres isn't going to last a family a fortnight, but it's exactly the right amount for what it's actually used for out here — rinsing the mud and sweat off after a day riding, topping up a camp kitchen, or just having clean water on tap without touching the drinking supply in the tray.
Underneath, a Gen-Y Hitch GHM-313-5 Mega Duty Drop Hitch — rated to 4500kg through a 2-inch receiver with a 5-inch drop and single 50mm ball — handles anything the truck needs to tow behind it, whether that's a trailer full of bikes or a camper for the next leg. A pair of Infinite Rule locking hitch pins, rated to 7000kg in stainless steel, keeps whatever's hooked up actually staying hooked up. It's not glamorous hardware, but it's the kind that ends arguments with insurance companies.
A Tray Built Around the Bike, Not the Other Way Around
The bed is where this build stops looking like a general-purpose tourer and starts looking like a support vehicle for something specific. A Big Days Chase Rack System — base rack, in-bed moto ramp with its own storage mounting brackets, a dedicated motorcycle mount, a separate bike/eBike mount, a tie-down point kit, and the lower beam that ties the whole structure together — turns the tray into a proper loading dock for two wheels instead of four. Load a dirt bike up the ramp, pin it down through the tie-down points, and there's still a rack overhead doing double duty as a mounting point for aerials, lighting, or anything else that needs to sit up and out of the way. This is chase-truck architecture, borrowed straight from the adventure-riding support-vehicle playbook: the truck exists to keep the bike moving, not the other way around.
Gen-Y Hitch Side Steps, rated heavy-duty for the weight of a full-size American truck, keep cabin access sane when the truck's sitting higher than stock — which it will be, on a build with taller rubber and lifted suspension underneath it.
Seeing Everything, Running It All From One Switch Bank
Lighting on this Tundra runs through Diode Dynamics, and the spread tells you it was speced for actual driving conditions rather than a single big number on a spec sheet. A Diode Dynamics SS6 LED Fog Light Kit in amber SAE-legal fog beam handles the job amber fog lighting has always done best — cutting through dust and rain without throwing glare back at the driver. Backing that up is a trio of SS5 Pro pods — a driving-beam single, a spot-beam single, and an add-on spot pod — giving the option to mix long-throw and wide-spread coverage depending on whether the truck's running a fast dirt road or picking a line through trees. A pair of SS3 Pro ABL pods in yellow rounds out the smaller-scale lighting, typically run as ditch or accent lighting to fill the gaps the bigger pods leave at the edges.
All of it — lights, and whatever else draws a circuit on this truck — runs through a Switch-Pros RCR-FORCE® 12, a wireless 12-circuit controller that does away with a dash full of toggle switches and relay wiring. One control point for everything electrical, which matters when half of what's plugged into it is meant to be switched on and off from outside the cab, not fumbled for while driving.
The Part That Doesn't Need Fixing
What's notable about this build is what wasn't touched. The Tundra keeps its factory turbocharged V6, boosted by Toyota's hybrid system and backed by a 10-speed automatic — a drivetrain already putting down close to 800Nm from the factory. Rugged USA Imports didn't see a reason to mess with that, and they're right not to. Everything added to this truck is in service of getting that factory powertrain, and whatever it's towing or carrying, somewhere further and rougher than the showroom ever intended — without adding a single part that doesn't earn its place doing it.
